The European Ecovillage Conference 2017

Living the future today: Solidarity, Resilience & Hope

The Global Ecovillage Network of Europe announces its 21st edition of the yearly European Ecovillage Conference, for the first time in Sweden.

This year, we are gathering around the themes of solidarity, resilience and hope, with the intent of creating a better future by starting to live it today. Our motivation is to replace obsolete models of living with innovative ideas and projects that are in harmony with our more beautiful nature and environment.

This gathering will bring change-makers, activists, experts, intentional community members, and all those friends who dream, hope and act for a conscious and sustainable lifestyle. Together we will nurture meaningful ideas to grow into purposeful actions.

Be part of the movement and join us in magical Ängsbacka for a multi-faceted festival on sustainability with many parallel events, high energy and deep relaxation.

Meet the people that walk their talk

The people that walk their talk will share their experiences and know-how, mostly through workshops and talks but also through art, music, dance, film and exhibitions. What does it mean to live the future today?

The program is unfolding here – and we are especially proud to have Keynote speakers Charles Eisenstein and Helena Norberg-Hodge with us.

The invitation

In an era of uncertain ecological and political futures, Robert Hall, GEN Europe’s Council President, invites you to “come and network with Europe’s grassroots change-makers. Join us to explore ways to live a richer life while being of greater service to humanity and the planet ”.

It is an invitation to come together and connect – to ourselves, to each other, to the world and to spirit. From that place let´s share solutions and create possibilities for “the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible”. We envision the conference to be a birthplace for initiatives and exciting ideas – a hub for projects for a better world.

Together we will explore communal living topics such as the sharing economy and social currencies, food sovereignty, renewable energies, non-violent communication, group facilitation, governance models, collective and consensual decision making, bio-architecture and ecological activism. And of course there will be many community bonding activities, complemented by morning activities centering to get into our lovely bodies as well as concerts, dance and music in the evenings. There will be plenty of opportunities for networking; it´s simply the best place to meet Ecovillagers from all over Europe!

Meetings in the Ängsbacka gardens

Who is coming?

The gathering has attracted and inspired thousands of people over the last 21 years. People wanting to learn more about sustainable communities; ecovillagers and aspiring ecovillagers, friends from like-minded networks such as Permaculture, Transition Towns and Gaia Education amongst many others, will join us once again. Anyone truly interested in a more sustainable lifestyle is welcome!

Shall I go?

  • Are you curious about ecovillages?
  • Do you want to find out more about living in and contributing to a more sustainable way of living on this planet?
  • Would you like to meet hundreds of inspiring and like-minded people to build friendships and common projects with?
  • Do you live in an ecovillage, intentional community or work on an exciting project and would like to share your experiences?

If your answer to any of these questions is yes, the conference is exactly the right event for you and we are looking forward to meeting you in July!

Participants in the 5 day event can expect a family-friendly, drug and alcohol free experience with the possibility to choose activities based on their interests, managed campsites with outdoor facilities and all inclusive vegetarian meals.

Restoring Peace ? how Ecovillages can help to to avoid a war? Intercultural friendship and dialogue vs stereotypes and dichotomy

"Now that we have learned to fly the air like birds, swim under water like fish, we lack one thing ? to learn to live on earth as human beings" George Bernard Shaw

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

This session is an explorative journey together through the reality of conflicts currently escalating in the society and finding the ways to build peace. While one part of the global society raises its consciousness about the planetary and human health, the governments are on the blink of a new war, environmental and social destruction. Growing insecurity in the tomorrow makes people to incline to radical solutions and rely on armed forces. What is the potential of ecovillages to secure the peace? What is the ecovillages role in that society? Now, in the 21st century we as the civilisation are on the blink of ecological, social, ethical and economic crises, and we cannot allow ourselves to risk with a new war instead of building cooperation for collectively solving global challenges.

<p>Alisa is the coordinator of No More War Festival, the council member of Suderbyn Permaculture Ecovillage, and the board member of NGO Relearn which works closely with GEN and Ecolise. Ethnically Russian, grown up in Kazakhstan and living currently in Sweden, Alisa shifted her attention from ecological and social work to the issue of conflict and reconciliation when her ecovillage on the island of Gotland got new neighbours ? the military forces hosting a big NATO military training in September 2017. It forced Suderbyn ecovillage to learn more about the geopolitical situation in the region and to stand actively for peace and international dialogue ? while being located 200 m from a shooting range. That was a beginning of an international initiative No More War Festival taking place in August 2017 [<a target="_blank" href=" http://www.suderbyn.se/no-more-war" ;>www.suderbyn.se/no-more-war< ;/a> ]</p>
<p>Alisa received her Master in Sustainable Development in Sweden after the first technical degree in Russia and has been a GEN activist for the last couple of years and the coordinator of a number of European international projects bridging ecovillages knowledge and the mainstream society through cooperation with civil society, academia and educational projects. </p>

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

An experimental and creative way into the not-knowing - discover collective ways towards innovative answers and solutions - an artistic version of the 'Theory U' process it's an invitation to dive together into an empty space and receive impulses and answers concerning burning questions we have as communities in a most challenging world. Starting from moving & dancing and other art related means we enter into a transformational space by listening to the wisdom and fresh impulses that emerge out of it. It's an intuitive and associative format, that will provide new ways and perspectives of answering, they are still not existing.

Living the New Paradigm - How real closeness create commitment and continuity in communities

What is possible when you go against "the story of separation", decide to stay when it gets hard and commit to do the work that it takes to get really close?

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

A challenge communities often face is how to reach stability over time and have people commit long-term to a group or a project.

When we get close to each other, when we go all in, our attachment patterns from early childhood tend to play out. We get scared, want to drop out and start looking for alternatives. The society of today is dominated by a "story of separation" (Charles Eisenstein) a pattern of turning away and leaving when life gets hard. In a culture where freedom of choice is one of our most cherished rights, we're not being supported to stick to what we once chose. It's tempting to always perceive the grass as greener on the other side.

By deciding to stay, by committing to do the work that it takes to get really close, we gain a grounded state of connectedness, happiness, meaningfulness and creativity.

In this workshop we want to explore, together with you, how we through insight in "the story of separation" as well as in attachment theory, can reach our longing for clan and to build sustainable and healthy communities.

Arne Bollinger

ecobasa.org - a gift-economy network for sustainable communities. We will present our latest developments, social tools and activities.

We are dependent on a self-stabilizing eco-system. Not yet fully understanding this complex system, we act like we would own it in stupid, unsustainable ways, that damage its current state and therefor ourselves within it ? Arne Bollinger

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

Gift-economy is social permaculture and a holistic and sustainable way to develop and strengthen communities of all kinds. More than a way of (not) exchanging, gift-economy is a culture that changes the way we relate to our self, each other and the world. A necessary systemic approach to the pressing problems of our times that are rooted deep in our culture. Money is scarce, especially in communities that want to develop in a sustainable way, that is not based on exploitation. We collect, develop and spread the techniques to put the culture described greatly by Charles Eisenstein into practice.
We will present the gift-network, the online platform, our current activities, the social tools we developed and the best gift-economy practices we collected for communities to become more resilient. (45min)

<p>About the presenter(s)</p>
<p>Arne Bollinger is active in many self-organized groups, networks and communities since 2008. He is the founder of the international gift-economy network for sustainable communities. (ecobasa.org)<br />
As a radical self-experience he was living without money for 6 months and learned a lot, personally, socially and spiritually.<br />
Since 2011 he is travelling through communities and ecovillages to collect best practices especially to become more resilient economically. He is documenting his travels on ecobasa.org&#039;s blogs and ecobasa.tv (youtube)<br />
One of his goals is to make the ecovillage movement approachable to professionals through new media and grow the international network to satisfy a broader spectrum of needs and skills within the network.</p>
<p>Through his work at the sinnwerkstatt media agency, he was involved in the organisation of the eco-social co-working space &quot;Thinkfarm&quot; in the heart of Berlin. Also here he found money very restricting and could observe how it was working against the idea of community. In the media agency he learned a lot about eco-social business, design, programming, movie production and project management. He recently decided to quit his job in order to live on the basis of gift-economy for his projects. Your gifts keep him giving.</p>
<p>Lately he is traveling through time to change the future of the <a href=" http://project-earth.org" ; target="_blank"> http://project-earth.org< ;/a> and settling down in a community &quot;building future&quot; in germany. </p>

For those who don't feel exactly happy about their way of living ecobasa.org provides the chance to see and live alternatives. The only remaining problem still is: YOU NEED TO DO IT.

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

The whole GEN Conference will be transformed into a gift-circle in this heart-opening experience, brought to you by ecobasa.org. Offers and Needs will match up magically in this social format that can be applied on all kinds of events and within communities. The more people take part in a gift-circle, the higher the chances are to fulfill wishes.
At some point the circle will develop its own collective intelligence, that can be used to make unmatched wishes come true.

<p>About the presenter(s)</p>
<p>Originally Arne studied music therapy. But from within psychiatric hospitals he could not really &quot;heal&quot; anyone. He found that the root of many actually healthy symptoms lies in a corrupt system and a culture that is not centered around human needs. On his search for holistic places where people can get and stay healthy he found ecovillages and that they are also struggling with the same culture, like all of us. The culture of gift-economy combines many principles for human and global holistic health. </p>

Sustainer - A sustainable container for desaster relieve, refugee camps and festivals

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

We all need to cook, wash and use the toilet.
The use of local pelleted bio-waste in pyrolisis stoves can be used for cooking and hot water, and leads to the making of charcoal. Using this charcoal in compost toilets gives relatively smell free toilets. In these toilets, where urine is separated from solids, charged biochare is produced, in a month, and later, safe 'humanure'.
These, combined with composted kitchen waste, produce 'Terra Preta'.
Put all these elements in and around a shipping container and we have the Sustainer.

This workshop will explore the possibilities of producing such a unit, as a prototype. Once that is proven as viable, then with added water, such a Sustainer, requiring no ground work, and no pollution, will meet these three basic human requirements. While the making of 'Terra Preta' and water for irrigation, will promote local food production, so completing the cycle.
The global opportunities that this notion presents are vast, and, time permitting, will also be explored.

Copiosis - a global socioeconomic innovation that makes capitalism sustainable, peaceful and planet and people-friendly.

You never change things by fighting the existing reality.
To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete - R. Buckminster Fuller

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

An introductory lecture to a global social system.

Smartphones and the Internet, coupled with people's growing comfort with algorithm technology, finally makes it possible to develop a better way to run civilization. Copiosis, which launched in 2013, has created a completely new kind of incentive system that naturally encourages useful, moral and responsible human behaviors, eliminating everything we dislike about capitalism. In Copiosis, society rewards people's behavior which makes other people and the planet better off. The rewards represent society's appreciation for producing value for others. With deeper study you will find the innovations net benefit reward system together with stigmergy makes the current hierarchical democratic system and government obsolete.
Copiosis includes the best elements of capitalism while rewarding environment protection and fostering local, regional, national and international community cooperation. The concepts of the sharing economy and circular economy are inherent in the innovation. It is completely open source and uses modern technology to create the world you and I know is possible. Nothing similar has been developed so far.

Authentic Adulthood Initiatory Processes

Can butterflies take flight while still in their chrysalis? No.
Then why would you think that human beings can deliver their archetypal calling while still captured inside their childhood survival strategy?

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

After a short but strong introduction about the differences between indigenous and next culture initiations, and the differences between education and initiation, we will divide into pairs and small groups to engage experiential steps during guided processes. Each initiation involves taking personal responsibility for an inner resource or a distinction that we could not previously imagine could be taken responsibility for or distinguished. The outcomes of a successful initiations is radical responsibility in a new domain that you can then deliver for others.

<p>About the presenter</p>
<p>I want GEN to replace the United Nations.<br />
I want nanonations ( <a href=" http://www.nanonations.org" ; target="_blank"> http://< ;a target="_blank" href=" http://www.nanonations.org" ;>www.nanonations.org< ;/a> </a> ) to replace mega-governments and corporations through creative responsibility.<br />
Since 1975 I have been co-inventing ways for small groups to reclaim personal and local authority beginning with the context of the culture they live in. This involves personally growing up, which has been banned in western civilization ever since the capitalist patriarchal empire took over. This particular adulthood initiation work is called Possibility Management.<br />
I have written a couple books ( <a href=" http://www.nextculturepress.org" ; target="_blank"> http://< ;a target="_blank" href=" http://www.nextculturepress.org" ;>www.nextculturepress.org< ;/a> </a> ), been videoed delivering some talks and processes ( <a href=" https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwtDrMNHYxXQiBUz6APiz9g" ; target="_blank"> https://< ;a target="_blank" href=" http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwtDrMNHYxXQiBUz6APiz9g" ;>www.youtube.com/channel/UCwtDrMNHYxXQiBUz6APiz9g< ;/a> </a> ) made a few blogs ( <a href=" http://www.clintoncallahan.blogspot.com" ; target="_blank"> http://< ;a target="_blank" href=" http://www.clintoncallahan.blogspot.com" ;>www.clintoncallahan.blogspot.com< ;/a> </a> ) and share my other projects at <a href=" http://www.clintoncallahan.org." ; target="_blank"> http://< ;a target="_blank" href=" http://www.clintoncallahan.org." ;>www.clintoncallahan.org.< ;/a> </a><br />
I think the secret to successful initiations is making the space so connected and safe that a person can allow their internal structure to reorder into a higher level of elegance and sophistication. So much camaraderie emerges that the work has inspired me my whole life. </p>

Ecosystem Restoration Camps are Ecovillages!

"If we can build one Ecosystem Restoration Camp, then another and another and just keep going, this gives us a method for ordinary people to restore the Earth."- John D. Liu

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

Dr. John D. Liu - the ecologist and documentary film-maker ( https://knaw.academia.edu/JohnDLiu ) has initiated a rapidly growing movement to establish a global network of independently funded Ecosystem Restoration Camps. Citizens from all over the world join the Ecovillage Restoration Cooperative to donate $10 per month to fund clearly designed restoration projects. Each team is guided by skilled permaculturists to bring soils back to life, grow and plant keystone species for capturing water into the Earth, all within a resilient, self-sustaining ecovillage-style community. We build our own shelters, grow our own food, generate our own power, and celebrate our own togetherness, and we'd love to see you there. The first ERCamp is opening now in southern Spain, and we have requests for other camps from Nepal, Africa, South America, Philippines, Indonesia, Jamaica, and more.

<p>About the presenter(s)</p>

Make Love the Ecology of Your Life;
Enjoy the Experience of Ecosexual Love

Make love the ecology of your life with Dr. SerenaGaia
"A world where it is safe to love is a world where it is safe to live."

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

This workshop is designed to support participants experience one another as 'metamours', people who share a partner they love: the Earth. It helps people evolve a consciousness about the inclusive and fluid aspects of eco-sexuality, and make love the ecology of their lives.
Roles include giver (lover), receiver (beloved), and witness (also dubbed moon,or panderer, or hosting ecosystem). Agreed-upon body areas for touch are limited to the head, face, shoulders, and upper torso areas. The givers intent is offering pleasure and loving touch. The receivers intent is absorbing the loving energy and enjoying .the pleasure. The witnesss intent is providing the safe space hospitable to, and conducive of love. Each participant embodies each role at least once. People are encouraged to imagine the witness as a beautiful ecosystem, a natural hostess whose energy is conducive of love. At the end of each round, participants share about their experience.
Some of the questions addressed include: How does it feel to be the compassionate planet that hosts all of our loves? As we witness the lovers, can we find it in our heart to experience their pleasure as our own?
Participants come away with an enhanced awareness of the connections between loving fluidly and inclusively and appreciating the spaces that host this love. Many report they enjoy the role of witness more than anticipated. As people envision the Earth as a generous and compassionate lover, many realize they can make love the ecology of their lives.

workshop decision making in communties using sociocracy

How nice it is to trust and support each other to share a vision, to create together and live together based on equivalence

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

I will offer 2 x2 hours where I will explain the principles of sociocracy.
It will be as little theory as possible but we will practice and do exercises to learn by experience.
The first block will be about circle meeting using consent,
the second about organizing a group in circles and the importance of shared vision and values.

In our communty, ecodorp Bergen, we now use sociocracy for 5 years. This means I can share experiences from a daily life in a sociocartic environment. And I am still motivated!
Hope to inspire you too.

<p>About the presenter </p>
<p>I am trained as an architect<br />
After 7 years of working in rural Africa, I was highly motivated for community life, a principle of living connected to your social direct environment that gets lost in the so-called developed world.<br />
Seven years ago I initiated an ecovillage in the Netherlands.<br />
I learned the importance of a decision-making structure with real equivalence as a guiding principle.<br />
I feel that sociocracy has the answer and so I did a four-year training at the sociocaric center in the Netherlands (the source).<br />
I developed training methods adapted for eco-communities and gave workshops to various communities all over Europe. </p>

Embracing the shadow

We can't access wisdom through our minds but through our hearts, because wisdom has a transpersonal quality that only the heart shares.

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

Embracing the shadow
The reflection of our excluded parts (the shadow) in the current conflicts of humanity.

In this workshop, we will explore the concept of the shadow: each of the characters or parts, that make up our total being and that control our lives autonomously whenever we repress or exclude them. We will also learn how it arises, how to identify it, how to interact with it, how it finds reflection in today's conflicts and how to turn it into an ally in our collaborative purpose in relation to the those conflicts. Being aware of how we project our shadow on the outside world can help us identify it. In this experiential workshop, we will carry out some practices with the intention of becoming aware of our excluded parts. The final goal is to be able to embrace them, experiencing the power and fullness of feeling complete with what we are - both light and shadow.

<p>About the presenter</p>
Irene Goikolea, facilitator, integral coach and PhD in deep psychology, has been working for more than 25 years toward the awakening of consciousness, facilitating individual and group processes of personal growth and development. Her experience in this field goes back to the circles of women she organized at the beginning of the 90\&#039;s with the intention of awakening to the sacred feminine aspect. The qualities of the sacred feminine aspect are interrelationship, the collective, integration, unity, care for the other, healing, nurturance, compassionate action and sentient capacity. Irene focuses on awakening these qualities to be able to embrace all our excluded parts.</p>
<p>Throughout her career, Irene has promoted the reconciliation of the opposites, as well as the integration of our most excluded parts, what Jung called the shadow. Her methodology includes different perspectives, such as the shamanic tradition, Jungian psychology, Hakomi, Process Work and the wisdom of the ancestral legacy of her Basque roots. She is also in tune with contemporary movements that promote the development of a collective paradigm, where the culture of the ?we? prevails over the culture of the ?I?.</p>
<p>Her commitment with the awakening of the feminine and its impact on the development of collective consciousness, based on the above, led her to inspire the materialization of the Amalurra project, made of three intentional communities situated in the Basque country, Andalusia and Catalonia (Spain). Amalurra has become a benchmark among Europe?s most established communities.</p>

Stowarzyszenie ZIELONO MI. Little Green Planet Zielonowo where trees and bees are still safe...

"Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps a singing bird will come."
- Chinese proverb

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

Stowarzyszenie ZIELONO MI has become this year the member of GEN- Europe. We are the first and only one member from Poland. I want to share our ecovillage's experience as well as ours and other?s NGO?s fight for saving trees in Poland.

<p>I am academic, who moved from a big city to the village Zielonowo six years ago, and founded the Association GREEN ME (Stowarzyszenie ZIELONO MI) . We work locally for ecological education, protection of environment and promotion of sustainable lifestyle and local products. The unique thing for which Zielonowo is famous is involvement of scholars from Polish universities and from other countries? HEIs, who visit Zielonowo with lectures and workshops within &quot;Academy of Citizens&quot;, making local inhabitants aware about local environment?s preservation, sustainable development and about benefits from living in harmony with nature. This awareness in quite developed in our cities, where people suffer from the deficit of nature, but not in the country. Thanks to us the knowledge and ?green? civil society ideas become available to the villagers. We are also involved in protection of trees, after recent negative changes in Nature Conservation Act in Poland, allowing for massive felling of trees on private lots as well as in reservations, like in famous primeval ?Bia?owie?a Forest?. </p>

WAYS OF DOING DEVELOPMENT DIFFERENTLY: Methodologies for adaptive & systemic development.

We need to stop doing things right to begin doing the right things? B. Ramalingam.

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

How does social change happen in today's complex and interconnected world? What theories of change, frameworks and methodologies can we apply to be more responsive and transformative in our work?
We are facing increasingly complex and interconnected problems that exist in changing and unstable contexts. We need to incorporate approaches and methodologies to respond to these realities.

During this workshop we will:
Explore how complex living systems principles can be applied to project design and implementation;
Give an overview of frames and tools to create adaptive, systemic, and collaborative projects.
Showcase studies from the ecovillage model and more.

<p>About the presenter</p>
<p>Consultant and facilitator on organizational change and project management through Complex Systems approach, agile and participatory technologies.<br />
I have been working in development for 8 years in several countries in Africa and South America. In 2013 I took time off to reflect and re-think my work, as I began having doubts about the impacts.<br />
I realised that the underlying beliefs of the development industry (the western paradigm of thought), the tools we were using and the accountability system were (many times) obstacles to really meet our humanitarian goals. I stopped my work to move to the UK and study a MA at Schumacher College (2013-14). Through encountering, ecology, holistic science, systems thinking, complexity theory, Gaia theory, permaculture some answers began to unfold.</p>
<p>My work now focuses on project management, and organizational change, leadership, sustainability and personal capabilities to deal with complex, collaborative and uncertain environments.<br />
Some of my published work includes: Collaborative tools for Social Organizations and Activism and spirituality. </p>

Naked technology

In the society where everything is designed for single use we end up with the chronic lack of imagination and versatility. The worst consequence, though, is indifference to absolutely everything.

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

We will strip ourselves "naked" of many layers of cultural clutter and when we get to the essence of our humanness we will learn about extremely simple technologies that can enhance our well-being. The purpose of simple technologies is to optimise the fulfillment of basic needs: good air, water, food, sleep, shelter, warmth, health and relationships. We will find out how to fulfill basic needs with timeless technologies that require only some knowledge and skill, thus making us independent of many complex technologies which don't really serve us. Among other things we'll learn how to make and use adequately the simplest tool, called "chewing stick", which had been used for dental hygiene by natives on all continents before arrival of Western civilisation.

<p>About the presenter(s)</p>
<p>Nara Petrovic is a Slovenian writer of 6 books, journalist, lecturer, translator and internationally active facilitator, practising luxurious simplicity and barefooting everywhere he goes. Ecopsychology ? an embodied and enchanted approach

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

Ecopsychology is the understanding that our psyches are not confined to our minds, but rather that we are participating in the psyche, or the soul, of the world. It is a radical practice that involves ecological insight, political analysis and connecting to nature in a sensuous and experiential way. We need this understanding as humantity is in an existential crisis ? what is our role on Earth? Can we be something more than a destructive force? Maybe our gift is to sing the world?
In this workshop we orient to the different dimensions of ecopsychology and work with sound and song to cocreate and connect with each other and more-than-human world. We will do exercises where you connect physical and musical intention with voice output and rhythmic motion.

Discussion on :

"Only the purpose of a coherent community, fully alive in both the world and in the minds of its members, can carry us beyond fragmentation, contradiction, and negativity." Wendel Berry, American poet

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

Even if heterogeneous eco-villages collectively represent a renewal of the concept of the commons existing in between private or collective ownership on one hand to governmental ownership (eminent domain) on the other.
As the concept of the commons got lost in western mindset we have increasingly mismanaged our common resources like land, air and water. To this day governments are still selling common resources for commercial exploitation. With growing challenges to mainstream society, the resurrection of the commons idea is part of a growing movement to enhance 'glocality' and a more resilient future.

Get to know ECOLISE, our European umbrella for like-minded community-led initiatives

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

The ecovillage movement was key in starting up ECOLISE, European Network for Community-Led Initiatives on Climate Change and Sustainability. Now the Brussels-based organisation is up and running with 4 employees and ambitious plans. Our flagship activity 2017 is the European Day for Sustainable Communities on 23 September, see http://www.ecolise.eu/?page_id=1252. We would like to collaborate and see activities that day everywhere in Europe. Come hear more of how ECOLISE is making ecovillages more visible and discussed in European institution, in the UN and among our like-minded movements like permaculture and transition.

<p>About the presenter</p>
<p>Robert Hall, on behalf of GEN, became involved in ECOLISE from the very first physical meeting in Brussels in May 2013. As GEN activist, GEN Europe Managing Director and finally GEN Europe President Robert has had the opportunity to represent and speak out for ECOLISE at the first EU Conference on Social Entrepreneurship in Strasbourg in January 2014, set up and staff the ECOLISE booth at COP 21 in Paris in November-December 2015 and at the European Network for Rural Development in Brussels in July 2016. In March 2017 Robert was elected President of ECOLISE for the period 2017-2019 and was thereafter in June 2017 invited to speak as president at the international conference, Gaia em Todo Mundo, ( <a href=" http://gtm.cm-gaia.pt/pt/gtm" ; target="_blank"> http://gtm.cm-gaia.pt/pt/gtm< ;/a> ). </p>
<p>Besides his involvement in ECOLISE and GEN, Robert is President of the Green Party on the Swedish island of Gotland, an elected member of the Regional Parliament on Gotland where he lives in Suderbyn Permaculture Ecovillage which he and others initiated. </p>

Alternative Currency for GEN and Ecosystem Restoration Camps

"Without a completely independent financial system we cannot fully step into a regenerative culture."- Dr. Rudolf Lenz

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

A new crypto-currency called Infinity Economics has recently gone public. This system is specifically designed to serve as an economic platform worldwide, especially useful for supporting a wide diversity of economic needs in global movements such as GEN and the Ecosystem Restoration Camps while providing a unifying field of economic exchange. The Infinity is in many ways a new generation of blockchain based crypto-currencies. One key for a crypto-currency's success is an exchange platform for products and services something like an Ebay for e-currencies. This is coming to life with Infinity Economics. Dr. Rudolf Lenz from Spain is explaining and answering questions about the Infinity currency and blockchain technology as an alternative and decentralized economic system, and Filipe Alves, MSc. from University of Lisbon, Portugal explaining and answering questions about GEN's progress towards adopting a crypto-currency for global ecovillage needs.

<p>About the presenter(s)</p>
<p>Both Felipe Alves, MSc, and Dr. Rudolf Lenz are enthusiastic about empowering GEN to make use of Infinity Economics to embrace GEN&#039;s diversity while maintaining the sovereignty of each ecovillage regarding its currency. The idea is to provide an ethical speculation-proof platform for currencies and other exchange mechanisms specifically applicable to the non-material riches of the ecovillage environment. </p>

"Only the once who transform remain related to me." translated from the german poet Christian Morgenstern: "Nur wer sich wandelt bleibt mir verwandt."

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

- nonverbal community building
- be fully yourself ... among others... the source of creativity
- re-discover the playful child within yourself
- be an „inner world class musician“

“LifeDance” is a nonverbal improvisation creation space - in which we meet our self and others on an essential level of being.
It's an open exploration setting leading the individual towards unfolding un-imagined aspects, possibilities and skills and guiding the group into a deep connectedness within just one hour…
Experience how it feels to share space & time with others while being radically yourself… and at the same time creating something collective and artful.
The basic means of expression - the human voice and body and various kinds of musical instruments lead to an authentic and magic place of creativity and togetherness including all qualities of being, a place where our restrictive cultural “you-have-to“s and “you-should-not”s are washed away...

Exceptional musical instrument creations of all kinds that invite to be approached intuitively are provided by Rüdiger (for details see: www.klangkunstwerk.ch ) - but you may bring along your own ones as well.

<p>About the presenter</p>
<p>I was born 1970 in Heidelberg (Germany) and lived in Venezuela for 5 years as a child, travelling extensively with my parents. An accomplished singer – flutist – dancer of contact improvisation, I have been active since 1995 in my profession as a body-worker and therapist for breath, speech and voice. In 2003 I co-founded the intentional community Schloss Glarisegg in Switzerland and have been a crucial co-creator of its structural development. Since 2005 I meditate Vipassana. I learned to be entrepreneur for a community project, where 1,4 million Swiss francs run through within one year. The community has grown to holding more than 50 members and is widely known for its strong emphasis on exploring tools of social communication.<br />
My source for inspiration is dancing contact-improvisation, singing and making music together with Rüdiger in LifeDance. Since 2014 we created the 3 days long “LifeDance&quot;, called “art of change”. Since 2016 I started to make the whole February an Ecovillage Design Education course, called “Creating a transformative Culture” with 50 young adults from more the 10 different nations. The red thread is my passion for a transformative culture, which gives everyone, us as communities and the whole humanity the possibility to grow into its own full potential.</p>

Community Research Project

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

How do we want to live tomorrow?

If given the option, many people would prefer a living situation less isolated than what most of us experience today. The human being seems to have a natural preference for living in community. Yet, only a tiny percentage of the population currently enjoys the pleasures of being embedded in a group of like-minded people who share the same values, go through the various life challenges with each others and also celebrate life together.

The majority of people in our modern society remain trapped in relative isolation, but then there are those few who actually dare to take the leap and start to build an intentional community together.

The aim of the Community Research Project is to find out and publicly share the unique accomplishments and wisdom that each of these communities have gained over a long period of growth, and how society at large can benefit from their insights.

The travelling part of this project starts with my visit to the European Ecovillage Conference in Ängsbacka where I will be presenting this project and networking with others.

<p>About the presenter</p>
<p>For many years Susanne Ratka has been interested in new forms of living together - especially for life in communities. She has dealt with the topic theoretically and visited various projects. </p>
<p>In the 80&#039;s and 90&#039;s she lived in a community with spiritual focus for more than 10 years and was a guest in Auroville, a community in Tamil Nadu/South India for several months in 2007 (<a target="_blank" href=" http://www.auroville.org" ;>www.auroville.org< ;/a> ). In the last years she visited the ecovillage Siebenlinden (<a target="_blank" href=" http://www.siebenlinden.de" ;>www.siebenlinden.de< ;/a> ) as well as the ZEGG-Center for the experimental art of living (<a target="_blank" href=" http://www.zegg.de" ;>www.zegg.de< ;/a> ).</p>
<p>Since 2008, she has been managing the Internationales Begegnungszentrum der Wissenschaft, IBZ, a place to live for international guest scientists and their families.</p>
<p>Susanne Ratka believes that we are facing a heavy social and spiritual crisis today, an upheaval on the way to a post-growth society and we are setting the course for the future now. That we need to rethink and question our way of living and look at brave people who have been exploring and testing new social models for many decades: in particular intentional communities. Communities and eco-thinkers around the world are the leading edge and hope bearers of this transition movement and have a lot to say and teach us.</p>
<p>From July 2017, Susanne Ratka will therefore begin a project on communities in the international context, which presupposes the thesis that our society urgently needs new ideas, impulses, insights and values. </p>

To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.? - Bucky Fuller

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About this event

A circle-talk with Peter Ljung and Nina Svedmark from the eco village initiative VildaVindar in Southern Sweden, and the association WoW - World of VisionVillages.
The talk is about what we believe is the true problem of this world, a history of the whole and about the choice at the human crossroads we are constantly facing. It´s also about what kind of solutions that could appear from this new problem picture.
The lecture is divided in three parts. The first part is about the alternative problem picture, the second about possible solutions and the third part is a dialogue circle around these thoughts.

<p>About the presenter(s)</p>
<p>Peter is a philosopher. He has worked with these questions over 30 years. The last 10 of these years together with Nina, who has lived during the same long time in the most ecologically sustainable way that has been possible. This lecture is an interweaving of their different experience and work. </p>

Hatha yoga, yin yoga, Yoga nidra, Silent sitting

<p>Influenced by my teachers, peers, environment and my travels, I aim to bring a unique sense of self study and common-unity to my classes. Through intention, meditation, pranayama and asana, my goal is to have my students leave each class feeling refreshed and renewed. </p>
<p>Teaching yoga in a wide range of styles from Hatha to Yin, I provide an opportunity to explore the spiritual through the physical, hoping to bring the practise of yoga off the matt and into the practice of life. </p>
<p>Yoga is a way to focus within, and by doing so expand our awareness, bringing increased responsibility to live in alignment. </p>

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

I offer a variation of Iyengar style hatha yoga as a morning practice tailored to the theme set at GEN and any new themes that may come up. These classes include breath work, partner work and mantras. A great way to start your day. I also offer Yin yoga classes which are much better suited as an afternoon practice focused on relaxation of the body and mind whilst staying in poses for up to 7 minutes (with the use of props to be as comfortable as possible). Yoga nidra is the yoga of sleep. It is a guided meditation which brings you to a sleep like state which is perfect in the evening before going to sleep. I am also very happy to hold a silent sitting practice at whatever time may suit GEN.

Dance journey- Moving closer to ourselves through Dance

\"If I could tell you what it meant, there would be no point in dancing it.\" Isadora Duncan

<p>About the presenter</p>
<p>I am a dancer, choreographer and a naturopath. As a freelancer I have<br />
directed, played and done choreography for various Estonian theatres. On a daily bases I engage in leading dance journeys, women´s circles, sacred sexuality events and doing natural therapies. My purpose is to be happy and in peace with myself! What makes me happy? Peace, beauty, cooperation, creation, listening to my heart, breathing together with other people, nature and of course dancing. I live and breathe through the dance. It is especially through dance that I feel the presence and contact with my true nature. My biggest teacher is the mystical life itself. I have learned that each and every one of us has his/her unique dance in life and inner rhythms are similar to seasons, nature, elements and the stars. By tuning into those rhythms and by understanding them, we can start to flow together with the world in a supportive, beautiful and heartwarming way.</p>
<p>I have been influenced the most in my life by theatre, dance, Tantra, Shaolin, Taiji, Butoh, aroma therapy, reflexology, homeopathy, reiki, shamanism, children, men, women, silence...</p>

Description of what you offer (REQUIRED, shown on website):

About the event

This Dance journey is inspired by the shamanistic dance tradition, 5 rhythms dance and the tantric worldview.

We have incarnated to this planet exactly to those bodies we have and all our wisdom, talent and essence expresses itself through this body. So it is important to go along with one´s body, to take care of it, hold it and love it, to find one´s unique dance, one´s rhythm and movements. This is what we´ll do on this Dance journey, we aim to catch our dance and we will do it together.

We consciously take contact with one´s bodies, listen to its´ needs, it´s longings, we give a chance for the body to express itself, we consciously learn to surrender and be humble in front of ourselves and life, to move lightly and give ourselves a chance to get in contact with our deepest wisdom, purity and beauty. We dance ourselves into silence…but from silence starts magic...

What is the Global Ecovillage Network?

The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) is a growing network of sustainable communities and initiatives that bridge different cultures, countries, and continents. GEN serves as umbrella organization for ecovillages, transition town initiatives, intentional communities, and individuals dedicated to restoring the land and living a cooperative sustainable lifestyle.

The Global Ecovillage Network is a truly global organization. Our work spans across six different regions – GEN-Africa, GEN-Europe, GENOA in Oceania & Asia, GENNA in North America, CASA in Latin America and NextGEN for the future generations of the planet.

Meeting at ZEGG 2014

What is the European Ecovillage Conference?

The GEN-Europe conference – European Ecovillage Conference – is the annual gathering of European people living for and working towards a more sustainable world. It´s the place where activists from many different areas and organizations come together to share, exchange, explore, co-create and give birth to new ideas and projects. It´s the place where receiving information about and establishing contacts to the ecovillage movement and her people is easiest. International guests from all other continents are of course very welcome.

Please have a look at what happened in Switzerland during the 2013 GEN-Europe conference

What is an ecovillage?

An ecovillage is an intentional or traditional community using local participatory processes to holistically integrate ecological, economic, social, and cultural dimensions of sustainability in order to regenerate social and natural environments.
